Amanuel, 30 years old, is from Eritrea. He’s been in The Netherlands for two months and is waiting for his asylum procedure to begin. Amanuel wants to tell his story so the world will know how terrible the oppression is in Eritrea. “Because,” he says, “No one leaves his country voluntarily.” His first attempt to flee failed. The second time he left with his wife, choosing to leave his small son behind. Their journey turned into a horrible nightmare, testing the limits of how much suffering a person can endure. Now that he’s in The Netherlands he’s beginning to live again.
